Publication Ethic

      The Journal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences (JMUMS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to promoting high standards of research integrity and ethical publishing practices in medical and health sciences. We are committed to upholding the ethical principles throughout the entire publication process, ensuring the credibility and trustworthiness of all published research.
     Our journal adheres to the guidelines and recommendations set by international organizations including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICJME), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). We emphasize transparency, fairness, and accountability in all stages of the editorial process, and we actively work to maintain a publication environment that supports scientific progress, academic freedom, and ethical standards.

 
Ethical Responsibilities of Editors
  1. Impartiality and Fairness:
Editors of JMUMS are responsible for making editorial decisions based solely on the academic quality, scientific merit, and ethical integrity of the work, without any bias related to the author’s background, nationality, or institutional affiliation. Manuscripts are evaluated based on their methodological rigor, relevance, and contribution to advancing medical and scientific knowledge. These practices align with the principles outlined in the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors (for more information, please visit the Code of conduct and best practice guidelines for editors).
  1. Confidentiality:
Editors must ensure that all manuscripts are treated with the utmost confidentiality throughout the review process. Details about a manuscript should not be shared with others outside of the review process, unless necessary for expert consultation. Peer reviewers are selected based on their expertise and are expected to maintain confidentiality as well.
  1. Managing Conflicts of Interest:
Editors are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest related to a submitted manuscript. If an editor has a conflict of interest, they must recuse themselves from handling the manuscript and refer it to another editor. These practices are in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors.
  1. Ensuring Transparency:
Editors must ensure transparency in the editorial and peer review process. They should provide clear and accurate information about the journal's policies and practices to authors, reviewers, and readers. Editors should also ensure that decisions regarding manuscripts are explained clearly and supported by sound reasoning.
  1. Promoting Ethical Research:
Editors are responsible for promoting and maintaining the highest standards of ethical research and publication practices. They should work to ensure that research published in JMUMS is conducted according to accepted ethical guidelines, including obtaining proper informed consent and ensuring that studies involving humans or animals comply with ethical standards.
  1. Handling Allegations of Misconduct:
Editors must take appropriate action in response to allegations of research or publication misconduct. If there are concerns about the ethical conduct of a manuscript or its authors, editors are responsible for investigating the matter and taking steps to address any issues. This may include retracting a publication or issuing a correction, depending on the severity of the issue.
  1. Supporting Peer Review Integrity:
Editors should take measures to ensure the integrity of the peer review process. They should be proactive in selecting qualified and impartial reviewers and avoid conflicts of interest in the review process. Editors should also take steps to prevent any form of peer review manipulation or exploitation.
  1. Ensuring Timely and Fair Decision-Making: 
Editors should make decisions on manuscripts in a timely manner and communicate these decisions to authors promptly. They must also ensure that the review process is fair and thorough, without unnecessary delays, and that authors are treated with respect throughout.

     In line with our commitment to publishing ethically sound research, the Journal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences follows the ethical standards and best practices recommended by COPE, ICMJE, and WAME. These guidelines help ensure that all manuscripts undergo a fair, transparent, and ethical review process.
