Background and purpose: Metabolism of many drugs and toxins is done in the liver, during metabolism of these materials, most of them cause liver poisoning. Therefore, indentifying some plants which cause live resistance against toxic metabolites is very important.In this study, influence of camphor extract on liver of Syrian male mice poisoned with tioacetamid has been considered. Materials and methods: For doing this experiment, Syrian male adult mice in group 3 were used. In first phase, first and second groups were just received water and food and third group was received camphor (11.8mg/kg). Then heart blood-letting was done from 5 mice in each group and their liver tissues were separated. In the second phase remaining mice of second and third groups were poisoned by thioacetamid (50mg/kg) during 2 successive days. Finally, heart letting was done and liver tissues of mice were separated and studied. Results: Obtained results show increasing level of enzymes SGPT and SGOT in the third group before thioacetamid injection and in the second group after thioacetamid injection (P<0.001). On the other hand, significant decrease of enzyme SGPT was observed in the second group after thioacetamid injection (P<0.05). Liver tissue of treated group with camphor was hurt less than second group. Conclusion: With regard to approaching average activity of SGPT in treated group with camphor after thioacetamid injection to control group and observing less damage of liver tissue cells in third group than second group, we can conclude that camphor with suitable dose can have protective effect on the liver. For better and more accurate conclusion, more researches will be suggested for studying protective effect of this material in different doses.
