Abstract

Abstract Fetal cholelithiasis is rare during pregnancy. Ultrasound examination in third trimester is the best diagnostic modality for detection of this condition. We report a case of 30- year old pregnant woman, at 36 weeks gestation, attending medical imaging center for routine obstetric ultrasound examination. Diagnosis of gallstones was made based on presence of multiple echogenic foci in the fetal gallbladder lumen. The expectant mother had a normal pregnancy. She received one dexamethasone injection and one Gelofen soft gelatin capsule. The parents did not have consanguineous marriage. Also, they did not have any specific disease such as anemia or other diseases.

Abstract

Fetal cervical teratoma is a rare and benign congenital tumor which is diagnosed in sonography during second and third trimesters. A 25-year-old primigravida referred to imaging center at 26-27 weeks’ gestation for routine prenatal anomaly screening. There were no history of special diseases or harmful drug intake. On sonographic examination, a large heterogeneous cervical mass with area of calcification, solid and cystic component was seen on anterior side of fetal neck. Fetal cervical teratoma was confirmed using magnetic resonance imaging. On time diagnosis of fetal cervical teratoma using sonography prevents infant death due to airway obstruction during delivery.

Abstract

Fetus papyraceus is a rare condition that describes a mummified fetus during multiple pregnancies. In this condition one fetus dies in early pregnancy, while the other fetus/es continue to live. The cause is unknown, but it does not seem to be a coincidental event. It is believed to be the result of abnormal growth and development in early pregnancy. This study describes a case of fetus papyraceus that was diagnosed during labor.

In ultrasound examination of a pregnant woman (19 weeks and 4 days gestational age) she was found to be pregnant with twins. It reported one live fetus and one dead fetus. Delivery was performed in natural course at 38 weeks and 4 days gestational age in which a boy was born alive and apparently healthy (Apgar scores 9 and weighing 3000 grams), while the other was a dead fetus that seemed mummy weighing 800 grams.

Fetus papyraceus is rare and its early diagnosis is of great benefit in preventing severe complications. Full investigation of the fetus and placenta will help to determine effective factors in formation of fetus papyraceus.
