Background and purpose: Life expectancy is an important health indicator in a society and positive changes in its process is a good indication of the performance of health system in a country. This study aimed to estimate the changes in life expectancy in Mazandaran province, Iran 2005-2011.
Materials and methods: A descriptive epidemiologic study was performed using demographic information (obtained from Provincial Health Centre Records) and mortality rate (obtained from National Death Registration System) considering the age and sex. Data was analyzed by Population Analysis in Excel and life table.
Results: The maximum life expectancy was 77.22 yeras in men and 79.93 years in women in 2007. Women had a significantly higher rate of life expectancy.
Conclusion: According to this research, there were steady changes in life expectancy in studied years.
