Abstract: (225 Views)
Background and purpose: Domestic violence against women is a global public health concern associated with numerous adverse psychological outcomes and occurs across all socioeconomic, cultural, and religious groups. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a spousal abuse intervention training package on domestic violence, emotional regulation, depression, and self-efficacy among women who had experienced domestic violence.
Materials and methods: This quasi-experimental study with a control group was conducted in 2024 among 50 women experiencing domestic violence who attended comprehensive health service centers. Data were collected using the Domestic Violence Questionnaire, the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, the Beck Depression Inventory, and the Sherer General Self-Efficacy Scale. Participants were selected using stratified convenience sampling. The questionnaires were completed at baseline and two months after the intervention. Counseling sessions based on the spousal abuse intervention training package were delivered to the intervention group by a psychologist. Descriptive statistics included frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. For inferential analyses, multiple regression, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), independent and paired t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, and chi-square tests were performed using STATA version 16.
Results: The results showed that, at the 95% confidence level, there were statistically significant differences between the intervention and control groups in emotional regulation (P = 0.04) and self-efficacy (P = 0.02) scores following the intervention. In the intervention group, the mean scores of domestic violence and depression were significantly reduced after the intervention compared with baseline.
Conclusion: Implementing the Ministry of Health Spousal Abuse Intervention Training Package in comprehensive health service centers may improve emotional regulation and self-efficacy among women experiencing spousal abuse. The intervention may also contribute to reducing levels of domestic violence and depressive symptoms in this population.
