Background and purpose: The ultimate target of health care systemin any countryis to improve
the status of health in people. One of the amendmentsmade inIran's Health System is family physician
program which was first implemented in 2005. Thisstudy aimed to review the experiencesof physicians
and other health team members in Arak University of Medical Sciences to assess this program.
Material and methods: In this phenomenological study data was collected through in-depth
inter views (semi-structured). The participants included physicians, midwives and health workers who
gave their experiences about the program. Fifty five interviews were carried out among15 physicians, 15
midwives and 25 health workers. Qualitative content analysis approach was applied to explain the data.
Results: In this study, two secondary codes came out from meaning unites including
management factors and public interests. First, differentcodeswerecomparedaccording to their similarities
and differences with in the general categories and were sub-divided into seven main categories
(organizing, human resource planning, service delivery process, evaluation, induction programs, health
benefits, and economic benefits) and fivesub-categories (administrative barriers, welfare barriers,
motivation barriers, lack of educational programs, and lack of public knowledge).
Conclusion: Further educational programs are needed to increase the level of information among
all involved people including physicians, health workers and ordinary people. Also, to reduce the
problems, revise in referral system, more focus onstaffduty, and time assessment indeliveringhealthcare
are necessary.
