Background and purpose: Sexual dysfunction is common among women. It affects all aspects of a women's life. Many of these problems could be treated in early stages via counseling. So, the aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group counseling based on Reality Therapy on sexual satisfaction in women.
Materials and methods: A clinical trial was conducted in Arak, Iran 2016. The participants included 40 women attending five health centers. They were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly assigned into either a control group or an experimental group. Experimental group took part in counseling sessions based on Reality Therapy (8 sessions, 90 minutes, twice a week) while the control group received no intervention. Data was collected using personal characteristic form and Larson Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire (LSSQ). They were completed by the participants before and four weeks after the intervention.
Results: The mean scores for sexual satisfaction in intervention and control groups were 81±13.78 and 79.85±12.3 before the counseling, showing no significant differences between the two groups (P=0.7). But after Reality Therapy, the values significantly changed in intervention group (97.39±13.79 vs. 85.4±20.5) (P<0.05).
Conclusion: Counseling based on Reality Therapy was found effective in improving sexual satisfaction in women.
